During Easter I got some Finnish delicacies and I was able to enjoy some foods that actually were very basic and boring to me in Finland. Mämmi is the only one of these that is related to Easter, but all of these are very traditional.
Breakfast is porridge. As you can see from the box it’s intended for kids. I like it and it’s very healthy. Parents say in Finland to their kids that if you don’t eat your porridge, you won’t grow to be strong and big. I’m almost 2 meters long and people ask me all the time what I’ve done to grow this tall. My response is always that I ate a lot of porridge as a kid.
Lunch is very traditional pea soup. It’s very traditional in Finland and Sweden. Especially in the army, because it’s cheap, easy to make and transport. I didn’t like the dish before I went to the army, but at there I learned to like it. One of the few things I learned at there. Nowadays I love it, especially with mustard and rye bread. Also often with smoked ham and onions.
For dessert this suspicious looking Finnish Easter delicacy called Mämmi. Mämmi is a malt porridge which is baked in an oven. It is made of water, malt and rye flour and is dark brown in appearance. Mämmi is best with vanilla flavored cream and huge cup of coffee. In here only with milk and sugar.
